Solar Tracker Sales Expected to Rise Steeply in North America in Future

Solar trackers are used for increasing the power output from solar receivers and solar panels. These devices follow the motion of the sun, that is, from east to west every day, and keep the orientation of the solar panels/solar collectors toward the sun. This technique significantly increases the amount of sunlight falling on the solar energy collectors, which in turn, increases the power output. These devices have the ability to improve the energy output of solar panels by nearly 20-30%, thereby enhancing the economies of the overall solar energy project.

Besides the aforementioned factors, the surging implementation of favorable government initiatives in several countries such as Japan, in the form of investments and feed-in tariffs, for promoting the usage of solar energy is also pushing up the requirement of solar trackers. As a result, the market for solar tracker is predicted to demonstrate unprecedented growth in the future years, according to the forecast of P&S Intelligence, a market research company based in India.

Commercial, residential, and utility are the major application areas of solar trackers all over the globe. Out of these, the utilization of solar trackers is presently being observed to be significantly higher in utility applications. This is credited to the fact that the usage of these trackers increases the electricity generation by as much as 40% in some areas depending on the amount of sunlight. These trackers also increase the electricity generation by nearly one-third as compared to the power produced by the fixed modules.

Globally, North America is currently observing the highest usage of solar trackers. This is attributed to the rapidly declining prices of solar panels and the increasing enactment of strict environmental policies and regulations in many North American countries for mitigating the carbon emission levels. For example, “as per the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), module costs for commercial PV systems decreased from USD 1.88/W in 2017 to USD 1.83/W in 2018, witnessing a decline of around 3%”.

Thus, it can be safely said that the sales of solar trackers will escalate all over the world in the upcoming years, primarily due to the growing popularity of solar energy and the increasing requirement of higher solar power output in various residential, commercial, and utility applications across the world.
